Canadian whiskys are nice for mixing cocktails, as you will find out with today’s Drink of the Day. We have to do something to help get the chill out. Today, as I look at the temperatures having a hard time even getting to zero degrees F, I felt it important to give you a whisky beverage that should help with the thaw out.
This is full of flavor, not only giving you a cranberry note to complimenting the spirit, but also throwing in a nutty background that does a fine job rounding the overall cocktail out. For those who like to somewhat mask the whisky bite, but want to still have the taste of the liquor, this may do it for you.
Now, if you are only going with a flask-full of straight whisky today, I completely understand. The frigid temperatures out there are close to unbearable. However, treat yourself to something semi sweet while giving you all the benefits the whisky has to offer with some bonus flavor notes. You will still get that warm and fuzzy feeling after having a couple of these mixed drinks.
1 1/2 oz. Crown Royal Canadian Whisky Blend
3/4 oz. Amaretto
Method: Build this in an old fashioned glass filled with ice by first pouring in the first two ingredients to measure. Top off with cranberry juice. Take a peel from a lemon and twist it over the cocktail to allow the oils from the rind to disperse over the drink. Rub the twist gently on the rim of the glass before dropping it in.
