Drink of the Day: Spruce Cocktail

October 15, 2015 | By |

Woke up this morning and felt the winter breeze for the first time this season.  Had to actually put on my winter coat to take out the trash for the first time.  Yes, it is very early in the morning and the temperature will be rising to a more tolerable level later today.  But, the chill was a sign that winter is just around the corner and that it is time to bring out some cocktails that will help keep the chill away.  Here’s a tasty brandy beverage that meets that standard.

The Spruce cocktail not only has the great flavor of brandy as its main ingredient.  It is also helped along with peppermint schnapps to give you that freshness, then dry vermouth to round it out.  It this doesn’t make you feel toasty inside, I don’t know what will.

A perfect cocktail to enjoy after doing some leaf raking, or enjoying the slopes.  Nothing like sipping on a warming cocktail in front of the fireplace to get you back to room temperature.  This one will surely fit the bill.

Enjoy your day and stay warm my friends.  Cheers!

Spruce spruce 1

1 1/2 oz. Brandy

1/2 oz. Peppermint Schnapps

1/2 oz. Dry Vermouth

1/2 oz. Simple Syrup

Juice of 1/2 Lemon

Method:  Combine all ingredients into a mixing glass with ice.  Cap with a tin and shake well.  Strain into a nicely chilled cocktail glass, (chilling cocktail glass is optional).  Take a piece of rind of a lemon and twist it over the cocktail, rubbing the twist gently on the rim of the glass before dropping it into the drink.
