The Golden Glove Cocktail is July 9th Drink of the Day!!

July 9, 2012 | By |

When this day happened, it was a very controversial move by Bud Selig. The Commissioner of baseball deciding to end the All-Star game in a tie in the eleventh inning in 2002 was looked at as one of the biggest blunders in the history of baseball at the time. It also made everyone realize just how unimportant the game was to the people involved. Mr. Selig had a very good reason for stopping the game. Both teams had run out of pitchers, and position players would have to fill that role. How would their teams feel if one of these players out of position were to get hurt? How the decision to keep playing could have been made much worse if this happened. After this, Bud Selig had an idea. This would change the intensity of this mid-season classic forever.

To bring more importance to the All-Star game, the winning team would give thier league home-field advantage for the World Series. Now, they had something to play for! This would change the overall feel for this game, and keep it more interesting for the fans as well. Great thinking Commissioner Selig!

To remember this day in history I have found a drink close to the original Daiquiri. A very smooth and refreshing rum drink to enjoy during the summer, watching America’s Favorite Pasttime!

Golden Glove
2 oz. Light Rum
Splash of Cointreau
Juice from one Lime
1 Tsp. Sugar

Method: Pour all ingredients into a shaker with ice. Shake well, then strain into an Old Fashioned glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with a lime wheel.
