On this day, in 1939, Margaret Mitchell would publish what would become a Pulitzer Prize winner, one of the best selling books of all time, plus have a film made from the book that is still considered one of the top five best movies of all time. Gone With the Wind was originally titled “Tomorrow is Another Day”, which is the last line in her book. She finally decided on using the current title, which she found in the poem, “Non Sum Qualis Eram Bonae sub Regno Cynarae by Read More >>

In my part of the world today the temperature will be touching the 100F mark. I wanted to find something that would refresh and replenish on such a balmy summer’s day. I think I found the right one. A blend of sour and fruity that will definately be a hit. Just be sure to try to have this inside today. Any type of activity outside on a day like this will surely zap the life right out of you. Nothing wrong with enjoying the air conditioning on a day like today.

The Citadel, Military College of South Carolina, was established in 1842 and has prided itself on keeping to its core values and strict dicipline. Up until this day in 1997, it was an all-male school. The courts ruled in favor for allowing women cadets to enter the school if they met the standards of the school. Today, seven percent of those attending the school are women.
To mark this day, I’ve found a drink that will be a great wake-me-up or something that you can drink on Read More >>

It would be a sad day on this day back in 1985 when U.S. Route 66 was decommisioned by the United States Highway Service. Due to the Interstate Highway System being erected, US Routes such as this one became obsolete. To save money, many of the US Routes would have the same fate. Today, only portions of this legendary route that spanned from Chicago to Los Angelas covering over 2,400 miles, has become tourist attractions.
The decommision of this highway was June 27, 1985. To Read More >>

In 1990, the Human Genome Project was put together. It was an international effort to map human DNA for scientists to better understand us and find ways to manipulate cell structure to hinder various diseases our species has suffered through for our existance.
This project was set to take roughly fifteen years to complete. On this date in 2000, scientists had already put together a rough draft map of human DNA. It would be another three years before they would have a foundation of Read More >>

To keep with the shot theme for the third consecutive day, I found one that is rather interesting. It’s a flaming shot by design, but you don’t need to have it that way. The combination of the melon and schnapps is surprisingly smooth and the flavor was not as complicated as I expected. To make this a drink that you don’t have to light, just delete the 151 rum completely from the recipe.

In what would become Canada’s National Anthem one-hundred years later, O’Canada was first performed on this day to celebrate Saint Jean-Baptiste Day in a ceremony in front of Congres des Canadiens Francais in 1880. Originally written in French, it was rewritten in its English form by Robert Stanley Weir in 1908. It has since been revised twice and it officially became Canada’s National Anthem with an act of Parliment in 1980. It became effective during their Dominion Day Read More >>

This drink was submitted by Shelly Yastrab from Akron. On the Portage Lakes in our fine home town there’s a bar/restaurant that serves this as their house drink. Harbor Inn has been considered a great destination place in the summer, with a patio that overlooks the lake and a menu that always satisfies. I suggest if you’re ever in the Akron Area, make this your second destination. That’s after you come visit me, of course!
This recipe was worked on by Shelly and Read More >>

Living in Northeast Ohio, I get ribbed on the river fire that happened in the late 1960s on occasion. If you don’t know about this, the Cuyahoga River at one time was considered one of the most polluted waterways in the world. It was so polluted that it would catch on fire on occasion. The one that would spark the environment water clean-up was on this date in 1969. This fire wasn’t even the biggest this river had seen. Yet, Time Magazine made it a big story and would cause Read More >>

I have a regular who comes up for business from Columbus, OH at least once a month. He always has some interesting stories to tell. One that peaked my interest was of a shooter that him and a bunch of his friends were trying while vacationing in Colorado during a skiing excursion. They were staying at a ski resort and a bartender offered a flaming shot called the Moose River Hummer. I felt it was an interesting enough drink to share with you today.
