The Abbey Cocktail is March 19th Drink of the Day!!
This is a very easy cocktail that dates back to 1930, when it made its appearance in the The Savoy Cocktail Book. A very easy, well rounded cocktail, perfect for your weekend brunch, it combines the flavor of a good gin with orange. Put the Mimosas to the side for the moment. Here’s one that gives you your daily allowance of Vitamin C and the herbal flavors of gin into a nice and chilled package; a perfect pairing with Eggs Benedict and bacon.
This is a great time to taste an old classic while enjoying a daytime gathering. With cocktails like this on the drink menu, I see gin making a nice comeback.
Abbey Cocktail
2 oz. Gin
1 oz. Orange Juice
2 Dashes Orange Bitters
Method: In a mixing glass filled with ice, pour in the measured amounts of all the ingredients. Shake well, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Traditional way to garnish this is with a maraschino cherry. I garnished with an orange wheel in the video.
