Happy Valentine’s Day! Hope you have the opportunity to enjoy your day with the one you love.

For this holiday, I usually come up with some original cocktails that you can enjoy with your partner in life. I have done a couple of these this year for other blog sites. In fact, if you want to see one that I did, you can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBZIkcy3QBg

This is a cocktail that’s been around since before Prohibition, dating back to the turn of the 1900s. A Perfect Manhattan made with scotch, this is a true sipper that you can take your time with to enjoy its flavor.affinity

Affinity Cocktail

2 oz. Blended Scotch

1/2 oz. Dry Vermouth

1/2 oz. Sweet Vermouth

2 Dashes of Angostura Bitters

Method: In a mixing glass filled with ice, pour in the first three ingredients to measure. Stir well to get a good mix. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Add two dashes of bitters. Taking a lemon rind, twist it over the glass allowing the oils from the peel to disperse onto the drink. Rub the twist on the rim of the glass prior to dropping it in.

This Day in History:

1920 - The League of Women Voters was founded.

1929 - Members of Al Capone’s gang killed members of another gang in what would be known as the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.

2001 - The Kansas Board of Education reversed its 1999 ruling and allowed the study of evolution back into the classroom.

Notable Birthday:

Prominent stage and silent film actor, John Berrymore, was born on this date in 1882.

Notable Quote:

“Happiness often sneaks in the door you didn’t know you left open.” - John Berrymore
