Creating Infusions: Cucumber/Spearmint Vodka Sampler

Infusions give you a little flavor to any spirit. Be it rum, vodka, gin, whiskey, or anything else, you want to do a sample to see how well it works before making a true batch. Today, I am introducing a cucumber and spearmint infusion that I let age for 84 hours. I agitated or lightly mixed the contents about every four hours, or whenever someone had a chance to do so. In my opinion, after tasting this, I will give it another eight to sixteen hours to give it a little more flavor.

The sample will only use six to eight ounces of liquor. I used a mason jar, so I could seal it nicely. I wrapped the spearmint in a coffee filter, so I wouldn’t have too much of a mess when I strained it. Usually, when straining a full batch, I would use a cheese cloth to ensure I got all the pieces and parts out.

Infusions will never always work, so it’s important to do a smaller batch first to make sure the flavor you choose to add to your spirit works. Enjoy!
