Drink of the Day: ?
I had the opportunity to put together some cocktails for the TOPO (pronounced top-oh) Distillery located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and we were having difficulty coming up with a name for this clear whiskey-based cocktail. Check out the video and let me know what you think it should be called. A little further along in today’s blog you will find the recipe.
This is close to a whiskey sour, but I threw some things in it to change it up somewhat. First of all, I did not use sour mix. The how I like to make a cocktail is to use fresh ingredients which gives you a more well rounded beverage. Plus, I added Chambord to it to give it a slight edge of raspberry, but not too much for it to take over the entire cocktail. With the garnishes, not only did I add a lemon half-wheel to it, I also added a sprig of thyme to give it a nice and unique aromatic touch to coincide with the citrus. Amazing on how much this changed up the drink, even though you were only getting a scent of it prior to taking a sip.
Let us know what you come up with. If we select the name you give us, we will send you a Shaun The Bartender T-Shirt and one of my books, “Extra Dry, with a Twist: An Insider’s Guide to Bartending”, that I will be more than happy to sign before sending to you. Plus, we will go ahead in about a month and reintroduce the cocktail on another Drink of the Day using the name and also give credit to the person who came up with it. Sound like fun? Can’t wait to see the names you come up with. Try to be original and no more than PG rated when coming up with names, please. We will close the contest on December 14. Winner will be notified soon after. We will reintroduce the drink with it’s new name sometime in January.
Good luck! It may be a little easier coming up with the name while imbibing on one or two of these. I hope you enjoy this no-name beverage to start off your week. Happy Monday, everyone!
