Drink of the Day: The Brenda

`Here’s one for you I came up with for a customer of mine who wanted to do a little more than her usual rye whiskey on the rocks. When putting this together, I wanted to keep the rye flavor in the forefront, only getting rid of the bite of the whiskey and bringing out its other flavors. The rye flavor itself was important for the overall flavor of the total cocktail. I think I was successful in doing just that.

When making a cocktail, especially one where the consumer enjoys the spirit itself, it is important not to hide its flavor, but compliment it with the secondary ingredients to add dimension to the drink. The tawny port and orange juice do a great job rounding out the rough edge of the whiskey while complimenting its overall flavor. The ginger ale and bitters just add to this by giving this beverage more body and a richer flavor.

So, this Drink of the Day will make a nice Monday evening relaxer. A soothing whiskey cocktail that is perfect to wind down and end your day with. Cheers!
