Drink of the Day: Cactus Bite

December 4, 2014 | By | Add a Comment

Here’s one that will be a great intro to the coming weekend. So good, in fact, that I am introducing it a day early. The secondary ingredients in this mixed beverage are many, but just enough to hide the bite of the tequila spirit; bringing out the best the blue agave liquor has to offer in regards to flavor. If you are a tequila fan, you will like the way the ingredients work together to give you a nice and smooth finished product.

Drambuie is an ingredient you usually only see either on the rocks or in a Rusty Nail. However, as you will find out while imbibing on one of these, there are many other ways to use this unique liqueur. You just have to have an open mind to experiment. Remember - you will find many more combinations if you look at each bottle behind your bar as you would an herb or spice in your spice rack. There are so many things you can do to enhance what you are drinking, and I am only giving you a few ideas to open your mind to other discoveries. That’s what makes this fun.

Here is today’s Drink of the Day. Hope you enjoy your Thursday! Cheers!

Cactus Bite

1 1/2 oz. Tequila Blanco

1 Splash of Triple Sec

1 Splash of Drambuie

1 Splash of Simple Syrup

Juice of 1/2 Lemon

2 -3 Dashes of Aromatic Bitters

Method: Pour all ingredients into a mixing glass with ice. Cap and shake to blend the ingredients. Strain into an old fashioned glass filled with ice. Take a lemon rind and twist it over the cocktail to allow the oils from the peel to disperse onto the cocktail. Rub it gently on the rim of the glass before dropping it into the drink.
