Drink of the Day is Captain’s Blood

This is a recipe that probably goes back way before the Old Fashioned and Sazerac, but because of its simplicity got lost in the annals of time. Still to this day, if you are a rum imbiber, this is a great cocktail to compliment a good rum, particularly dark or amber. The secondary ingredients are not used enough to bring out the best this great spirit has to offer. It will bring out the better notes of the liquor itself. The type of drink that calls to me.

So, this Drink of the Day is the perfect warm weather refresher. Enjoying while mingling with your favorite people, enjoying some great company and toasting to great times to come. Cheers!

Captain’s Blood

2 oz. Dark Rum

1/2 oz (or less) Maraschino Liqueur (this ingredient is more for its aromatic tendencies).

1/2 oz. Lime Juice

2 Dashes of Aromatic Bitters

Method:

In a mixing glass filled with ice, pour in all the ingredients to measure. Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Squeeze in the juice of a wedge of lime before dropping it into the drink.
