Drink of the Day: Spicy Mexican

I have been fortunate enough to meet some great bartenders from around the world since I started this website a couple years ago. That’s why I am happy to introduce you to someone on the other side of our planet when introducing today’s Drink of the Day.

Naing Lin is a bartender from Yangon, Burma, and was asked to come up with a cocktail menu at the bar he works at. He was nice enough to send me his favorite recipe so I could introduce it to all of you today. A nice and spicy tequila cocktail that, if you like a little heat, will enjoy imbibing. Naing did a great job introducing some citrus and sweet to bring the heat down and to make it a nice compliment to this overall drinking experience. Thanks for sharing Mr. Lin.

Spicy Mexican

1 1/4 oz. Tequila Blanco

1/3 oz. Cherry Brandy

1/4 oz. Grenadine

1 oz. Fresh Lime Juice

2 Red Chili Peppers (one for preparation of drink, one for garnish.)

Method: Take the chilly peppers and cut them into workable pieces and place them in a mixing glass. Add the cherry brandy and grenadine. Muddle by pulverizing the red pepper into the brandy and grenadine. Once you feel you have done this enough, add ice, then the tequila and lime juice. Cap with a tin and shake well. Double strain into an old fashioned glass filled with ice. Garnish rim of glass with a whole red pepper and three maraschino cherries.
