Drink of the Day: Spruce Cocktail

February 9, 2015 | By | Add a Comment

A good Monday morning to you! Hope your weekend was filled with fun and adventure. Now, it’s back to the grindstone for most of us. I think I may have something for you that will put you in the right state of mind after your day is over.

Once you take a sip of this, you will know why it is named what it is. A nice and soothing mint brandy beverage that you can enjoy after a nice and hearty meal, or maybe during the cocktail hour; this will surely get you where you want to be when it comes to relaxation. Plus, it will warm you on a nice and chilly evening from the inside out.

One of the ingredients on this is peppermint schnapps. Be sure not to overdo the pour on this ingredient, or you will take away from the other flavors this cocktail has to offer. The recipe calls for a half an ounce. Honestly, you can probably scale down to a quarter ounce on this and still get the mint flavor you are looking for. I will let you decide.

Fun Fact: Brandy was invented in the early 16th century when a Dutch trader invented a way to remove water from the wine to ship more in a limited amount of cargo space. Water could be put back in when it got to it’s destination. This was known as brandewijn. It would later be shortened to brandy. It being a wine, it can be made by distilling any fruit. Of course, the most common is grapes. But, depending on the region, you also have many made with apples, berries, apricots, etc. (thanks Cocktail Times.com for this information).

Enjoy your day! Cheers!
