Drink of the Day: Twisted Lemonade
We are finally at Super Bowl Sunday! Do you have any plans for the big game? For most of us, it’s an excuse to get together with friends to have a couple drinks on a Sunday night. Most of the game will consist of a lot of fluff, including the half time show, which has pretty much taken over the reason why they have the game in the first place. In my opinion, if they could just have the game with good commercials in between, it would be a perfect world. However, we have to deal with all the other stuff, which tends to get way too top-heavy for me. Maybe, I’ll just TEVO the whole thing and watch it tomorrow. The total view time doing this would probably be less than one hour.
Okay, enough of my views. Haha! Let’s get down to the Drink of the Day!
Here is one that will be very easy to make and will not take too much time away from your viewing today’s game. It, in itself, is full of fluff, using already infused vodka and having pre-made sour mix. Why am I doing it this way, you ask? It is to give you an example on how to make a decent cocktail quick and easy without too much fuss.
If you want to go the full route of making this, using fresh ingredients instead of bottled mixes, I can show you that too, so you can have that option. Yes, it will give you a fresher, more refreshing, drink. But, it will take about 3 - 5 minutes to prepare, (that’s if you have already prepared the home-made grenadine). If you don’t want to waste your time with Kate Perry at halftime, I highly recommend you taking the high road on this one. The video shows you the quick and easy version.
Enjoy your Super Sunday, folks! Now, let’s play some football!
Twisted Lemonade (Easy Way)
2 oz. Strawberry Infused Vodka
1/2 oz. - 3/4 oz. Sour Mix
Splash of Grenadine
Method: Pour all ingredients into a mixing glass with ice. Cap and shake well. Strain into a nicely chilled cocktail glass. Add a half-wheel of lemon to the rim of the glass.
Twisted Lemonade (Better Way)
3 - 4 Strawberries de-stemmed and chopped
Juice from 1/2 of a Lemon
Juice from 1/2 of an Orange
3/4 oz. Homemade Grenadine (Simple syrup infused with pomegranate 1:1 water to sugar simmered over the stove with pomegranate beads until you achieve a nice rich red color which usually takes about five to seven minutes. Make sure this does not boil! Strain into another bowl using a mesh strainer. Funnel into a bottle that will be easy to use when making cocktails. Add some vodka or brandy to keep it from molding. Be sure to refrigerate once the grenadine gets to room temperature. The grenadine should stay on its own for two - three days)
2 oz. Vodka
Method: In a mixing glass, pour in the vodka and put in the diced strawberries. Muddle these together to get a nice and uniform smash. Squeeze in the juices of the lemon and orange. Pour in the homemade grenadine. Add ice. Cap and shake vigorously. Double strain into a nicely chilled cocktail glass. Add a half-wheel of lemon on the rim of the glass.
