Drink of the Day: Whiskey Smash

September 17, 2014 | By | 1 Comment

Happy Hump Day, everyone!

To celebrate the middle of the week, here is an old style cocktail that you will enjoy if you are a whiskey imbiber. This is a true whiskey smash; one that you actually muddle in the flavors of the cocktail, hence the reasoning for the name. A true treat for those who like the craft of bartending.

In the video, I may have gotten a little carried away with the garnishes. But, it is really up to you to decide what you feel is a finished product when it comes to this. I must have been feeling something different this particular day. When I watched this today, I felt I went a little overboard. Maybe go without the orange and cherry when you are making this for yourself. Or maybe not. This I will leave up to you.

Enjoy your Wednesday!

Whiskey Smash

5 Mint Leaves

1 Tsp Sugar

1 oz. Soda Water

1 1/2 oz. Bourbon Whiskey

Twist of Lemon for Garnish

Method: Take five mint leaves and tear them a little to allow the aroma of the mint to come out. Drop them into an old fashioned glass. Add the sugar and soda water. Using a flat headed muddler, gently muddle the ingredients together, allowing the mint to protrude the soda and to allow the sugar to dissolve. Add ice. Top off with whiskey. Take a lemon peal and twist it over the cocktail to allow the oils from it to disperse on top of the drink. Rub gently on the rim of the glass before dropping it into the cocktail. Stir and serve.
