Drink of the Day: Alexander
Good day to all!
Before we get started today, just wanted to make sure everyone did their taxes. Today is the last day for submitting, unless you request an extension. I’m just happy my wife is the one that does this, or I would probably be indulging more than I should on these Drinks of the Day. Now that I got that out of the way, let’s get down to the good part of this blog….
Today’s cocktail is a classic that dates back to at least 1915. As in most cases with these pre-Prohibition concoctions, there are several stories as to how each of these drinks originated, and this is no exception. One of these, my favorite, lists this in a story in the Philadelphia Inquirer in October, 1915. It was named after Grover Cleveland Alexander, who was a pitcher for Philadelphia and was instrumental in getting them to the World Series that year.
No matter where this drink originates, this is an excellent gin cocktail. Unfortunately, this cocktail has lost it’s luster, primarily because it is the predecessor to the Brandy Alexander, which most of you are familiar with. However, this is a “must-try” for you gin enthusiasts. I promise you, you will not be dissatisfied.
Have a great Wednesday and enjoy the springlike weather.
Cheers!

1 oz. Creme de Cacao
