Drink of the Day: Blueberry Lemonade
Nothing beats the cool breeze coming into the room in the morning, as rain plays its harmonic beat outside. There is no imitation for that. The aroma of the blooms are enhanced as they welcome their early nourishment, and the birds singing as the rain subsides lets us know that they will be enjoying their breakfast soon as worms find their way to the surface. Ah, the sounds and smells of the great outdoors. There is nothing better to wake up to.
I am bad as the next guy when it comes to trying to make things easier and quicker by using pre-flavored vodkas and imitation washes. Why would I want to put all the effort in when I can get the flavor I am looking for already in the bottle? As I listen to the morning showers, and my senses are overwhelmed with the many fragrances just outside my window, I can tell you that nothing will beat natural flavors and aromas…..period! Doesn’t matter how more advanced we get, we will never be able to duplicate the freshness of what mother nature has to offer. She’s been doing her thing for billions of years! Nothing beats fresh ingredients from mother Earth.
I have selected my Drink of the Day with all this in mind. Granted, I only went halfway with the fresh ingredients in this cocktail. My friend and former colleague, Tom Purdy, came up with this cocktail. It is a great refresher for the summertime. I changed his recipe up just a bit to make it a little less time consuming for you, the home novice. You can go all out and actually make the lemonade yourself, if you would like. I do promise it will give it a more refreshing flavor that what I am showing you today. But, I am fine with meeting mother nature halfway due to the time and effort I would have to put in. Plus, the fresh blueberries give it enough POP, so forgive me for being a little lazy.
For those of you who do not like things floating around in their drink, this may not be for you. The muddled blueberries are throughout this beverage. I think it gives more character to leave these in the cocktail. However, if you must, you can double strain this beverage into new ice using a hawthorne strainer and mesh strainer. This will take you some time, so patience is definitely a must if you want to go this route.
Enjoy your day, my friends! Cheers!
