Drink of the Day: Bye Bye New York

Good Thursday morning! This is a salute to my favorite talk show host, who I had the pleasure of watching during my many years tending bar. It will be hard to imagine that he will no longer be on the air.

David Letterman had his last show last night. In his honor, I would like to toast him with a cocktail who’s name seems quite fitting for this event. I remember many slow late nights watching him as I cleaned up the bar, preparing to close up for the evening. He would become my late night friend; someone I could count on to keep me company and give me a few laughs as the evening was winding down. Thanks, Dave, for being my late night companion, entertaining me and the many others who had the pleasure of watching you. Enjoy your much deserved retirement. You will be missed.

This is a great combo cocktail combining equal parts of rum, vodka, and hazelnut with citrus. An easy cocktail to prepare and one I’m sure Dave would enjoy after his long run on television.

A salute to someone I could always count on to be there through my many years in this occupation. I wish you the very best in your future endeavors. CHEERS!

 

Bye Bye New York

3/4 oz. Vodka

3/4 oz. White Rum

3/4 oz. Frangelico

Orange Juice

 

Method: Build this in a highball glass by first pouring in the first three ingredients to measure. Top off with orange juice. Stir and serve.
