Drink of the Day: Oriental Cocktail

I find this classic cocktail rather unique because of what it is called more than anything else. There are no ingredients in this from the Far East. However, this is a nice sipping pre-dinner cocktail that perfect to warm you up and satisfy your thirst. Rye whisky, the base spirit for this drink, is enhanced due to being complimented by the other ingredients, which do a great job of hiding the bite of the whiskey.

This cocktail was originally found in the Savoy Cocktail book, published in 1930. If you are a rye whiskey fan, you must try this well rounded - easy to construct beverage.

Oriental Cocktail

2 oz. Rye Whiskey

1/2 oz. Sweet Vermouth

3/4 oz. Cointreau

1/2 oz. Simple Syrup

1/2 oz. Fresh Lime Juice

 

Method: Place all ingredients into a mixing glass to measure. Cap and shake well. Strain into nicely chilled cocktail glass. Take a rind of a lime and twist it over the cocktail. Rub the twist gently on the rim of the glass before dropping it into the cocktail.
