Drink of the Day: Rye Not?
Good Monday morning! We have another week in store for us, and it is up to us to make it what we will. I want to hold up my end of the bargain, and kick off the week right, by giving you another cocktail that is now on the specialty cocktail list at Twiisted Sushi Bar and Grill!
A unique combination of ingredients, not meant to hide the flavor of the main act: rye whiskey. There is such a nice finish with this type of whiskey. Just getting rid of the bite of the spirit allows the flavors of this to be exposed which, you will find out when drinking, is a great thing. The red wine used tends to tone down the harshness of whiskey, yet intensifying the other elements of the liquor. The finish of orange juice and ginger ale tones it down even more, rounding out the edges of the cocktail.
If you are not a whiskey fan, you will not enjoy this beverage. However, I feel that I have come up with a drink that many of those who enjoy their dram will appreciate as a summer sipper, giving them a little something more than their usual whiskey on the rocks.
Enjoy your day. Hope your week gets going on the right note today. Cheers!
1 1/2 oz. Rye Whiskey
3/4 oz. Red Wine (I use Malbec)
3/4 oz. Orange Juice
Ginger Ale
2 - 3 Dashes of Aromatic Bitters
Method: Build this in a highball glass with ice, by pouring in the first three ingredients to measure. Top off with ginger ale. Add a couple dashes of bitters. Stir. Add an orange half-wheel on the rim of the glass to garnish.
