Drink of the Day: Sidecar
Good morning and happy Hump Day!
I have a classic for you that has been around since the early 20th Century. Since the craft cocktail movement, we have seen many revivals of some very popular pre-prohibition cocktails. This would be one of them.
As most drinks of this era, it is unknown the exact time the cocktail came about. But, one story is that there was a US General that would get driven in a sidecar to one of his favorite bars in France, just after World War I, and would order this drink. No matter where or how this cocktail came about, it is a hidden gem that I insist you have to try.
It’s delicate aroma, along with the sweetness of brandy and citrus, makes this a perfect after-dinner treat. You will be amazed on how easy this goes down.
Once again, I am going to use Borducan for the written recipe. This sugar beet based triple sec is incredible in cocktails such as this. If you are able to get this brand for your bar, I highly recommend it.
Enjoy! Cheers!
Sidecar
2 oz. Cognac
1 oz. Borducan Orange Italian Liqueur
Juice of one Lemon
Granulated Sugar
Method: Take a chilled cocktail glass and rub a lemon around the rim of the glass. Dip the wet rim into a saucer of granulated sugar. Take a lemon rind and twist it. Drop it into the glass. Set the cocktail glass to the side. Combine the other ingredients into a mixing glass with ice. Cap and shake well. Strain into the sugar-rimmed cocktail glass.
