Drink of the Day: Tampico

May 9, 2015 | By | Add a Comment

Today’s drink is one that is for all you Campari fans out there. Campari, if you’re not familiar with it, is a bitters apertif and is very unique in it’s flavor. It’s origins date back to 1860, where it was invented by Gaspare Campari in Novara, Italy. Some of the once popular cocktails associated with this liqueur are the Americano and Negroni. I happened to find this recipe and figured I would share it with you.

Campari has a very unique flavor. If you are into hiding the liquor flavor in a drink, I suggest you skip today’s drink. This cocktail’s ingredients are only meant to give more character to the primary ingredient. It is not for the faint hearted. For those of you that love Campari, here’s another cocktail to check out.

Again, I have used Cointreau as the orange liqueur for this recipe on my video. However, since we are mixing this with an Italian bitter cordial, I think it’s only right to add Borducan instead. Plus, the orange flavor of this ingredient will pop right out and will somewhat smooth out the aggressive attributes of the main part of this drink. Either way, this is unique enough to check out.

Enjoy your Saturday!

Tampico

1 1/2 oz. Campari

3/4 oz. Borducan Italian Orange Liqueur

Tonic Water

Juice of 1/2 Lime

Method: In a highball glass with ice, pour in the first two ingredients to measure. Pour into a mixing glass, cap with a tin, and shake well. Strain into a new highball glass with new ice. Top off with tonic water. Squeeze in the juice of 1/2 a lime. Stir. Garnish with a wedge of lime on the rim of the glass.
