Drink of the Day: The Brenda

April 9, 2015 | By | Add a Comment

With the rain pouring down outside as I sit here typing the blog this morning, I get the sudden urge to do nothing else but open the window and listen to the water making it’s majestic sounds as it hits the many things on my patio. Nothing like nature’s orchestra delighting us with its harmonic beat as I sip on my coffee. If it was later in the day, I would definitely have a cocktail that I will be sharing as today’s Drink of the Day.

Last year, I had the pleasure of serving a true novice of fine rye whiskey, and they were looking for something that would work well in cocktail form. She didn’t want an Old Fashioned or Manhattan, but something unique that would take some of the bite of the spirit, yet bring out the rye notes of the whiskey. This is what I came up with. Since she was the one who enticed me to concoct this, I named it after her.

If you feel like dressing this up, I suggest using a twist of orange and maybe a maraschino cherry. However, this is not necessary. You may also want to try this as an “up” beverage, shaking everything but the ginger ale and straining it into a nicely chilled cocktail glass. Add the splash of ginger ale to the combination once it is in it’s finished setting.

I wish you all a wonderful Thursday. Only one day away from the weekend kickoff. However, we still have this day to enjoy! Cheers!
