The El Presidente is February 17th Drink of the Day!!
Happy President’s Day! To all of you who get the opportunity to celebrate this by having every third Monday of February off work, I wanted to give you a nice relaxing one that you can enjoy while sitting in front of the fire.
Originally, the nation celebrated George Washington’s Birthday every February 22nd. An Act of Congress made it a national holiday where all federal and government workers would take Washington’s birthday off. But, in 1971, it was decided to make every third Monday in February the official “President’s Day” holiday, which makes it more practical, plus gives the bankers, schools, and federal workers a three day weekend.
The drink I am introducing today is well suited for this holiday due to its name. A rum based beverage, it gives you another look at this liquor as more than your tiki variety spirit. This is more of a sipper that you can take your time savoring and enjoying the end of the three-day weekend.
El Presidente
1 1/2 oz. White Rum
1/2 oz. Dry Vermouth
1/2 oz. Orange Curacao
Splash of Grenadine
Method: Build this in an old fashioned glass filled with ice by pouring in the first three ingredients to measure. Top off with a splash of grenadine. Stir and serve.
