This is a cocktail you will have to try if for no other reason than to call out the name of it. A surprisingly refreshing drink that uses the French liqueur, Pernod Anise, an anise-based liqueur. This ingredient is used in many occasions as a replacement for the once banned liqueur, Absinthe. Don’t let this make you think that this does not stand well on its own merit. So to not override the other flavors used when compiling the drink, be sure to not used more than what is specified in the drink recipe below. In fact, one may want to tone it down a notch and use less.

For all you gin lovers out there, this one will be a home run, adding some gin and orange juice to help tone down the intense flavor of the Pernod and rounding out the edges to give you a great sipper. Hope you find this as unique and enjoyable as I did.

Monkey Gland

1/2 oz. Pernod

1 oz. Orange Juice

Splash of Grenadine

Method: Pour all the ingredients to measure in a mixing glass filled with ice. Strain it into a chilled cocktail glass. Take a peel of orange and twist it over the drink, allowing the oils from the rind to disperse on top of the drink. Drop into the cocktail.
