The Morro is April 7th Drink of the Day!!
I will get people to re-acquaint themselves with gin if it’s the last thing I do. There are some great cocktails out there that use this spirit as the base. I am here to introduce these to you a day at a time. Here’s another one I feel you will enjoy, plus it gets a little help from another spirit, dark rum. Both of these combined in a drink is soothing and can probably go well by themselves on the rocks with a squeeze of lime. That is if you have the right gin and dark rum. To enhance the experience, a little pineapple and just a smidgen of lime and sugar will do the trick.
A rocks beverage that tends to get better the longer it sits, this combination liquor drink tends to be strong enough to tolerate the secondary ingredients. They are just there to assist in the overall and not override them. This is important to remember when making this. You are only enhancing, not masking the liquor. Getting rid of the bite, yet allowing the other flavors that are part of the liquor to shine through. If you like a little sweet to go with your adult beverages, you are in luck. Nothing like placing your lips on a sugared rim while imbibing on this cocktail. It only makes the overall experience that much more worthwhile.
Morro Cocktail
1 1/2 oz. Gin
1/2 oz. Dark Rum
1/2 oz. Pineapple Juice
1 Tsp. Simple Syrup
1 Tsp. Fresh Lime Juice
Method: Before doing anything else, take a juicy lime wedge and run it on the rim of the finish glass, which will be an old fashioned style glass. Dip the rim into granulated sugar, leaving a light coat on the rim. Set this glass to the side. In a mixing glass filled with ice, pour in all the ingredients to measure. Shake enough to blend everything together. Set the mixing glass to the side. Take the sugar rimmed old fashioned glass and fill it with ice, trying not to bother the sugar on the rim. Take the mixing glass with the mixture and strain it into the old fashioned glass with ice.
