The Original Lemon Drop Shooter is October 16th Drink of the Day!!
I have to admit, I feel the hair on the back of my neck come to attention when anyone orders a Lemon Drop anymore. Why, you ask? Because I know that what people are expecting is nothing but chilled vodka with a wedge of lemon with sugar sprinkled on top. The original one was much more complex and a much better shooter. Why we seem to go two steps back with things is beyond me.
The drink I am introducing today is the original way of making this shooter. It is much more complex and will have you appreciate the drink more once you have one. Next time you are in the mood to order a lemon drop up for you and your friends, give this rendition a try. I promise you that you will never go back to the college version of the drink again.
1 oz. Vodka
1/2 oz. Galliano
151 Rum
Granulated Sugar
Lemon Wedge big enough to lay flat on top of a shot glass
Method: In a shot glass, you begin by pouring in the measured amounts of vodka and Galliano. Lay the lemon wedge on top of the shot glass. Pour sugar on top of the lemon wedge. Slowly pour the 151 rum on top of the sugar, then ignite, allowing the sugar to caramelize before blowing out the flame. To do this shooter, do the shot first, then suck on the lemon with the caramelized sugar. Be sure to give the lemon enough time to cool down before attempting to drink!!!
