The Piccadilly Cocktail is June 10th Drink of the Day
This one dates back to 1930, where it was introduced in the Savoy Cocktail Book. This is when gin cocktails consisted of the majority of mixed drink and ruled the bars. This was due to gin being easily attainable and most common with people back in those days. During prohibition, gin was the easiest to acquire. Though the gin that was available back in those times wasn’t the best quality, it gave those who were mixing drinks an opportunity to come up with drinks that would hide that fact.
Here’s a great example of one of those cocktails. The Pernod used in this drink gives it it’s aromatic character, while the dry vermouth tends to harness the flavor all the ingredients and ties it all together. For those who like gin, this is a definite “must try”!
2 oz. Gin
3/4 oz. Dry Vermouth
1/2 oz. Pernod
Splash of Grenadine
Method: In a mixing glass filled with ice, pour in all the ingredients to measure. Cap off and shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Take a peal of lemon and twist it over the glass. Gently rub on the rim of the glass before dropping it into the cocktail.
