The Rob Roy is January 22nd Drink of the Day!!

This cocktail dates back to before the Prohibition and is a close kin to the Manhattan. The difference is the base liquor, blended scotch. This drink was first put together in 1894 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, where it got rave reviews. It is said to have received its name in honor of an operetta with the same name. Even the dry years of Prohibition didn’t keep this from where we are today.

I have taken the liberty to add a little orange bitters to this and to add a twist of orange in place of the maraschino cherry. The aroma of the orange really rounds out this cocktail nicely. Hope you enjoy this version. Cheers!rob roy

Rob Roy

2 oz. Scotch Blend Whiskey

3/4 oz. Sweet Vermouth

2 Dashes Orange Bitters

Method: Build this in an old fashioned glass filled with ice by pouring in the measured amounts of the first two ingredients. Add a couple dashes of orange bitters. Take an orange peel and squeeze and twist over the cocktail, allowing the oils from the rind to disperse on top of the drink. Gently rub the twist on the rim of the glass before dropping it into the drink. Stir and serve.
