The Robson Cocktail is March 21st Drink of the Day!!
Using mixers for cocktails are not always used to hide or mask the liquor that is used for that particular beverage. In fact, in most cases, using secondary ingredients are meant to bring out the best attributes of the alcohol used, hiding the bite of the alcohol itself, all the while enhancing the flavor notes the spirit has to offer. Here is a great example of that.
Nothing like a good Jamaican amber rum. Just a squeeze of lime and ice is all I need to enjoy this. However, there are some that need a little more than that. A secret to a good mixed drink is finding that perfect balance. Smoothing out the rough edges and keeping the rum as the main act are the goals when making this. If you prepare this properly, you will have a refreshing daytime beverage you can enjoy while relaxing by the pool.
Robson Cocktail
2 oz. Jamaican Rum
1/2 oz. Orange Juice
Juice of half Lemon
Splash of Grenadine
Method: In a mixing glass filled with ice, pour in the first two ingredients to measure. Squeeze in the juice from half a lemon, discarding the remnants after doing so. Add a splash of grenadine. Cap off with a tin and shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Take a piece of lemon rind and twist it over the cocktail, allowing the oils from the rind to disperse over the glass. Rub gently on the rim of the glass before dropping it in.
