Sex on the Beach Shooter is June 19th Drink of the Day!!

June 19, 2013 | By | 3 Comments

Amazing how drinks evolve sometimes. When I first started tending bar, a Sex on the Beach was a shooter and was much different than what you see today. Now, it’s nothing but a rocks drink with ingredients not even close to being similar to what was made back in the day. That’s why I’ve decided to reintroduce the original recipe to you.

Not that I’ve ever been into the sweet shot drinks that were very common back in the late 1980s and 90s. But, with the big difference I see in this drink compared to what I see today, I felt it was important to go back to that day and show you a nice shot you can share with those who you feel like toasting with. I hope you enjoy. Cheers!

Sex on the Beach

1/2 oz. Vodka

1/2 oz. Melon Liqueur (Midori)

1/2 oz. Raspberry Liqueur (Chambord)

1/2 oz. Pineapple Juice

Cranberry Juice

Method: In a mixing glass with ice, pour in the measured ingredients, leaving the cranberry out. Cap and shake. Strain into a port glass, filling it to about 3/4 of an inch from the top of the glass. Take the cranberry juice and pour it to about 1/4 inch from the top of the glass to complete the shot.

    Shaun,

I’m looking for the Sex on the Beach with no cranberry juice and no Chamborde. The one we drank in the early 80′s - the only one I’ve ever had until a wedding last month, was one that had Midori, pineapple juice and I don’t know the other ingredients…I just know they were not cranberry juice or Chamborde. It was green! It was a shot but we used to get them as a cocktail too at the bar we always went to. That was the only way they made them anywhere you went in the Chicago area in the 80′s, 90′s and 00′s. I never thought to get the recipe because I never thought the recipe would actually change. It would be awesome if you could help! Love your video!!

    • Hey Nadine.

Thanks for checking out the videos. Really appreciate it! In regards to your request, this is the way that I learned how in Dallas, Texas in the late 80s, and I was very surprised on how people drink them today. I am assuming that if it was green, they may have used vodka, Midori, Pineapple Juice and possibly peach schnapps, since this has gotten to be one of the major factors in the drink today. Drinks evolve a lot more than they should. However, that has always been the case, though the craft bartenders will tell you differently.

If you could let your friends know about my site and the videos, it would be very appreciated. If you have a cocktail you would like for us to use for the Drink of the Day, let me know and we will introduce it to the masses and let everyone know that you were the one to submit it for our drink library.

Thanks again for your support! Cheers!
