The Silver Cocktail is April 6th Drink of the Day!!

Dry vermouth has become a standard in many “up” gin cocktails, but usually is used as a secondary ingredient. Many use it to only layer a chilled glass, just giving you a hint of its flavor to complement the main performer. In fact, the most famous cocktail using gin, the martini, starting out as a 2:1 (gin:dry vermouth) has now gotten to the point where most only use a mist or don’t even put it in the drink altogether. Well, after tasting this Drink of the Day, I am surprised people shy away from its attributes. With the Silver Cocktail, it complements the other flavors and enhances the overall experience. The secondary ingredients, maraschino liqueur and orange bitters, only add to and bring out the best in the primary ingredients. Of course, the twist at the end gives you another dimension that will make this a pleasant drinking experience for those of you that want to try something new.

A great sipper that is as much aromatic as it is tasty, this is a can’t miss to all you gin lovers out there. I do have to warn you to not overdo the maraschino liqueur, because it tends to override the other flavors when doing so. Just a splash will do. I hope you enjoy this easy to make cocktail that has much to offer your taste buds. Cheers!

Silver Cocktail

1 oz. Gin

1 oz. Dry Vermouth

1/2 oz. Simple Syrup

Splash of Maraschino Liqueur

2 Dashes of Orange Bitters

Method: In a mixing glass with ice, pour in all the ingredients to measure. Cap off and shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Take a lemon peel and twist it over the drink, allowing the oils of the rind to distribute onto the cocktail. Rub this gently on the rim of the glass before dropping it in.
