I don’t know how many of you remember living in these hot and humid days of summer without the convenience of Central Air, or even a window AC unit for that matter. I remember laying on the Living Room floor with three fans blowing on me to cool me down. To get relief and actually feel a cool down I would have to ante up some money to go to the local movie theater. Well, now there are more of us with the convenience of residential units that seem to get only better every year. Thanks to Mr. Willis Carrier, he saw a need for temperature and humidity control for certail manufacturing facilities to ensure good product even on the hottest of days. He installed his first air conditioning unit at a printing press in 1901, allowing this company to control the temeratures more on their presses and give more stability to their inks. It wasn’t until the 1920s that this invention would be considered a use in the places to relieve people from the heat. Today, central air is more common than not in households. With the summer we’ve had so far, I consider it one of the coolest innovations to date!

To commemorate the first AC unit, I found a drink named after it. This one is easy to make and won’t cause you to sweat. Especially if you’re making it in a nice and comfortable temperature controlled room. Stay comfortable and cool with this nice vodka cocktail.

The AC Cocktail
1 1/2 oz. Vodka
3/4 oz. Cherry Liqueur
Cola
Maraschino Cherry for garnish

Method: Begin by adding the vodka and cherry liqueur into a highball glass with ice. Add coke and stir. Garnish with a Maraschino Cherry.
