Eliot Ness and the rest of the Untouchable crew couldn’t nab the notorious Al Capone for all of his bootlegging and murdering in the Chicago Area, so they got him where it hurt….in his wallet. Today marks the date where, in 1931, Capone would be sentenced for eleven years for Income Tax Evasion. After years of people fearing to witness against him, allowing him years of running the streets of Chicago, Uncle Sam finally did him in.

To honor this day, I found a drink named after the notorious one himself. One ingredient, marsala which is a fortified wine from France, may be somewhat hard to find. In that case, maybe use a sherry or port on the dry end.

Al Capone
1 1/2 oz. Brandy
3/4 oz. Marsala
1/4 oz. Drambuie

Method: Pour all ingredients into a shaker with ice. Shake well, then strain into a cocktail glass.

This day in history:
1931 - Mobster, Al Capone, was convicted of tax evasion and sentenced to eleven years in prison.
1933 - Albert Einstein arrived in the United States as a refugee from Nazi Germany.
1979 - Mother Teresa received the Nobel Peace Prize for her work with the poor in Calcutta, India.
1989 - An Earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Ricter Scale killed 67 people and injured thousands of others in San Francisco.

Notable Birthday:
Jerry (Jerome) Siegel, Cartoonist and Co-Creator of Superman, was born on this day in 1914.

Notable Quote:
“Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.” - Albert Einstein
