The Alaskan Cocktail is January 3rd Drink of the Day
To commemorate the induction of Alaska as the 49th State on this date in 1959, I’d like to share a drink that’s been around for over eighty years, but doesn’t get much, if any, fanfare nowadays. This cocktail was first introduced in a book entitled, “The Savory Cocktail Book”, in 1930. Why it’s called the Alaskan Cocktail is not known. However, the nice crisp flavor and the chill you get while drinking it might be reason. A perfect quencher on a hot summer’s day and very easy to make.
The Alaskan Cocktail
1 1/2 oz. Gin (80 proof London-Dry Variety)
1/2 oz. Yellow Chartreuse
Dash Orange Bitters
Method: Pour all ingredients into a pint glass filled with ice. Stir with a bar spoon for 20 - 30 seconds or until cold! Strain into a cocktail glass.
