Betty Boop has become one of the most recognized cartoon characters in the world. Though you can still see her in many newspaper comic strips, she has brought in millions of dollars in merchandising. What better way to symbolize beauty than that of the world-renowned Ms. Boop. With that said, you’ll be amazed to know how she got her start.

Fleisher Studios had a short animated series called Talkartoon. On this date in 1930, the premier of the character of Betty Boop, a cartoon character illustrated by studio artist Grim Natwick, appeared in the sixth cartoon of this series called, “Dizzy Dishes”, where Betty Boop started as a French Poodle. It is believed he wanted to emulate the singer Helen Kane, and if you were to see a picture of her he did a pretty good job doing so. However, due to a lawsuit brought on by Ms. Kane, they would deny this. Bringing Betty to human form, changing the flappy ears to earrings and the poodle nose to a button nose, happened in 1932 in the animated short, Any Rags.

To remember the day the “Queen of the Animated Screen” was brought to us, I want to introduce a shooter I found that’s fairly easy to go down. Just be careful. The flavor will make it seem weak, but it’s far from it.
