The Biltmore is March 1st Drink of the Day!!
As I do everyday, I put together some history of the day with the hopes of finding a drink that fits with the history. There are days where I have to choose which drink would be more appreciated before deciding to write this. Some days, however, I have nothing. This happens to be one of those days, so I picked a classic that you will be pressed to find on any menu. However, if you have the opportunity to order one, I highly suggest doing so. The hazelnut soaked in maraschino juice garnish is quite interesting.
This drink was first published in a cocktail book named, “Just Cocktails” in 1936. The combination of the pinapple, gin and sweet vermouth give you this smooth and unique flavor. Adding a dash of Maraschino Liqueur and the unique garnish just takes it over the top!
Biltmore
1 Chunk of Pineapple
2 oz. Gin
1 oz. Sweet Vermouth
Dash of Maraschino Liqueur (replace with maraschino juice if you’re having a time finding this ingredient)
Hazelnut soaked in Maraschino Juice for garnish
Method: In an Old Fashioned Glass, place the pineapple chunk in the bottom of the glass, along with the Dash of Maraschino liqueur, and muddle it together. Add the gin and sweet vermouth and then the ice. Stir, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Take a hazelnut that’s been soaking in maraschino juice (for at least three hours, preferrably over night), and drop it into the drink for a garnish. Makes for a great conversation piece.
