HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

With the way things are nowadays, one has to wonder what this day means today versus what it meant when our Founding Fathers penned their names onto the Declaration of Independence. I would assume we probably have many of them spinning in their graves. I, myself, am one to believe we ALL have the freedoms to become what we want, even if bureaucratic and political ways tend to make these dreams seem far away at times. It is still us who have to make the decision on what we want to become, and take our best foot forward on what we want to achieve. You must keep this viewpoint even with the boundries that are put in place to hinder us from chasing our dreams. Because, any other viewpoint would keep us from what we still are and what we want to remain - a free country. For us who want to be truly free, we must not fall into the trap of entitlements and free passes. That, my friends, is when we become socialists; where we feel we need the help from our government to give us the comfort to survive. Is that where we want to be as a country? This isn’t what many people have sacraficed their lives for! We must understand that we, individually, must sacrafice some time and effort to work hard, some times exhaustingly, at achieving our dreams. It takes hard work to truly be free and enjoy our independence. That’s what true freedom is!

This is another drink originally from the classic book, “The Savoy Cocktail Book”, by Harry Craddock. It was adapted by Peter Dorelli. I found it on thekitchn.com, originally posted in 2008. As many of Mr. Craddok’s drinks are, this is a unique drink that goes beyond the punches or frozen drinks you find at the picnics and parties for this festive day. For those of you that like to try something that was enjoyed in the past, this would be a great time to do so. Enjoy your freedom by sipping on a nice soothing cocktail while enjoying family and friends. Cheers!
