The Brandy Alexander is January 6th Drink of the Day

Nothing like sitting by the fire, on an over-stuffed chair, glamourizing the day’s events while sipping on a cognac and feeling the warmth of the beverage going down to its destination. Can you tell I’m from a cold part of the country? Ah yes….some nice refreshing coffee and a snifter of my favorite beverage in hand, forgetting about the obstacles of life for a while.
While I may be one to enjoy the flavor of a good cognac, not everyone feels the same. The reason we, as bartenders, are in the business we’re in is to build creations to hide the liquored flavor of our alcohol of choice. The drink I am choosing for the day is the perfect remedy for those who want to mask the booze and, at the same time, have something that’ll relax and give them that same feeling I have when hearing the crackling of limber while feeling the unwinding begin to take place. The Brandy Alexander is the forethought of an earlier beverage known as the “Alexander”. It consisted of gin instead of cognac and is never called for, at least in my travels. Though, for you gin drinkers out there, this is something you may want to try out.
It is believed the Brandy Alexander was first made at the wedding of Princess Mary and Viscount Lascelles in London in 1922. It has stayed a mainstay for many years.
