In what was considered an impossible feat in the type of aircraft he was flying, and bringing him from a unknown to a household name worldwide, Charles Lindbergh would takeoff from Long Island in his single-prop, single-seat plane called “The Spirit of Saint Louis”, and begin his 3600 mile non-stop transcontinental flight to France. For this feat, the US mail carrier and Army Reservist would receive the highest medal in the United States, the Medal of Honor.

The classic Savoy Cocktail Book, written by Harry Craddock and published in 1930, first introduced a drink who’s ingredients had to be changed today due to a couple of the ingredients no longer being in existence. Still, the ingredients that are now in it are also going to take some time to get. However, this would be a good time for you true at-home bar enthusiasts to build up on some interesting ingredients for your home stock. We can thank Erik Ellestad of savoystomp.com for coming up with the current rendition.

The Charlie Lindbergh Cocktail
Splash Orange Juice
Splash Apricot Brandy (Replacing the now unavailable Pricota)
1 oz. Cocchi Americano (an aperitif wine from the Asti Province of Italy, and brought back after being unavailable for a time, it is replacing the original ingredient Kina Lillet).
1 oz. Plymouth Gin (Do not mistaken this for your usual London Dry variety. Check out your local liquor store for availability).

Method: Pour ingredients into a pint glass filled with ice. Stir well, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. For the garnish, take a lemon peal and twist it over the cocktail. Rub the twist around the rim of the glass and drop into the drink.
