The Chernobyl is April 26th Drink of the Day!!

Back in 1986 on this day, the nuclear power plant in what is now Ukraine had an explosion, releasing a large amount of radiation into the atmosphere. It is considered the worst nuclear-power accident in history. To contain the contamination to the best of their ability, it would take 500,000 employees and over 18 billion rubles and would cripple the Soviet economy for many years.

After the Three Mile Island scare, this put a larger wound on an already sore subject. Nuclear power had not been a favorite to many due to it’s safety issues. This would slow down its growth for many years and still, to this day, is a bad energy idea. With the tsunami in Japan raising safety issues again on this energy source, who’s to know if nuclear energy will ever meet it’s true potential.

In remembrance of this terrible event in human history, I have found a drink that is named after the nuclear plant that this accident happened.

Chernobyl
2 oz. Blue Curacao
1 oz. Vodka
Orange Juice with Pulp

Method: In a highball glass, Pour in the measured liquor over ice. Top off with orange juice and stir.
