The Cold Front Cocoa Drink is July 21st Drink of the Day!!
Hard to believe the we are in the middle of summer here in the States, and I’ll be talking about this being the day that the coldest ground temperature ever recorded here on Earth happened. It happened where you would think this would occur - Antarctica. The place was at Vostok Station. I’d like to know who the poor soul was that actually recorded this.
To remember this day, and to go off the path of the tropical drinks for a minute or in this case day, I want to introduce to you a cocoa drink I found on thesacramentolife.com website. I’ve changed it up somewhat to give it a little more life. Plus, it’ll be more fun to put together. Though, you’ll have to do a little more prepping for my version, the end result will be that much more enjoyable.
Prepping for Drink
You will have to prep the day before, giving yourself at least twelve hours for this to fully be effective. Take two green apples, de-core, then cut them into eight wedges each, with or without the skin (your choice). Take eight strawberries, cut off the tops, then cut them in quarters. Place the apples and strawberries into a large mason jar or any other container you can seal tightly. Once you’ve done this, take a bottle of Amaretto DiSaronno and pour it over the fruit, making sure the liqueur level is covering all the fruit. Seal the container well and place in the refrigerator for at least twelve hours. Once you are ready to make your drink, strain the liquor into another container. Spear one each of the strawberry and apple together, then set them nicely on a plate. This will be used to garnish the drink. The DiSaronno that was strained off is now infused with an apple/strawberry flavor. This will be used with the drink.
Cold Front Cocoa Drink
1 1/2 oz. Strawberry / Apple infused Amaretto DiSaronno
Hot Water
Cocoa Mix
Whipped Cream
Dark Creme de Cacao
Amaretto Soaked apple and strawberry flag for garnish
Method: Prior to putting in the amaretto, pour hot cocoa packet into a large mug and add water, to about 3/4″ from the rim of the mug. Stir well to ensure you have dissolved the cocoa mix. Add Amaretto and stir again. Take whipped cream and add it to the top of the beverage. Top it off by pouring Creme de Cacao over the whipped cream. Place the speared apple/strawberry and place it next to the mug. Enjoy!
