The Cuban Missile Crisis Cocktail is October 16th Drink of the Day!!
It wasn’t rare for the United States to fly over Cuba to take aerial photos to watch over to make sure our closest neighbor was playing nice. What was rare was what was found in one of these fly-bys by one of the planes. It was shown that the USSR was setting up nuclear missiles for close range strikes and had them aimed right at the United States. Once he heard of this happening, President Kennedy sent a the Navy in to sit just outside the Cuban coast. This all began back in 1962 on this date. The stand-off would continue for thirteen days until both sides came to an agreement. The Russian missiles would be taken out of Cuba on the condition that the United States would dismantle thier missiles located in Turkey and Italy. Luckily, no nuclear war was started. If these missiles wouldn’t have been seen, we probably would be seeing a completely different America today.
To remember this day, I have found a drink that bears the name of this crisis.
