The Dillinger Cocktail is July 22nd Drink of the Day!!
The bank officials and United States Government considered him a menace to society; the general public looked at him as a modern-day Robin Hood. John Dillinger and his gang would rob over two dozen banks and four police stations during the 1930s. Dillinger would even break out of prison two times. This bank robber would run out of luck on this day in 1934, when he was shot to death outside Chicago’s Biograph Theater.
Dillinger would officially become FBIs first Public Enemy Number One. There were many high-profile criminals at this time. But, no one was as loved by the public as Mr. Dillinger. Herbert Hoover was just forming the Federal Bureau of Investigation and wanted to make a splash. He used John Dillinger as the Poster Child for this new law enforcement agengy.
To remember the day Dillinger’s crime spree would come to an end, I’d like to introduce a drink that is named after him. This is a drink that does not have the flash you would think it would have, since it was named after someone who lived in the fast lane. However, it’s interesting enough to give it a try. The dill flavored aquavit and creme de cacao combination will surprise you.
The Dillinger Cocktail
1 3/4 oz. Dill Aquavit (a Scandanavian Flavored Liquor. Dill is one of about 20 flavors available and derives from potato or grain mash.)
3/4 oz. White Creme de Cacao
3/4 oz. Cream
Method: Pour all ingredients into a pint glass filled with ice. Stir well, then strain into a cocktail glass.
