The East India Cocktail is March 20th Drink of the Day!!

The Dutch East India Company originally was established in 1602 for Europe to take advantage of the Asian spice trade. It was given a 21 year monopoly by the States-General of the Netherlands to carry out colonial activities in Asia. This company ended up becoming the largest and most powerful multinational corporation during most of its 200 year existance.

Corruption in many levels of the business ended up being the downfall of this company and it ended up going bankrupt and formally dissolving in 1800. It’s debt and possessions were taken over by the government of the Dutch Batavian Republic.

To remember its day of inception, I’d like to introduce a drink that was named after this company. This brandy cocktail will get you settled in after a long busy day. No worries about sleep deprivation after a couple of these!

East India Cocktail
1 1/2 oz. Brandy
1/2 oz. Dark Rum
1/2 oz. Triple Sec
1/2 oz. Pineapple Juice
Maraschino Cherry for garnish

Method: Pour ingrediens, except cherry, into a shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Drop cherry into drink for a garnish.
