The Ford Cocktail is July 30th Drink of the Day!!
Even though Henry Ford can’t be credited for introducing the world the first car, he could pat himself on the back knowing he was able to make this once expensive machine more affordable for all. He is also accredited with comming up with the assembly line style of manufacturing, where each person had a job to do to ensure every vehicle was put together the same way. This also sped up the process and made the assembly that much more affordable, makking it even more affordable to the consumer. Today, on this day in 1863, Henry Ford was born.
I’m doubting that this cocktail was named after Henry Ford, but it shares his name. This cocktail is from the book, “Modern American Drinks”, by George J. Kappeler. It was published in my home town of Akron, Ohio. One ingredient in this may be hard to find. If so, just replace the Old Tom Gin with a London Dry Style gin. However, if you do a little homework, you will not be disappointed if you’re able to acquire some.
Ford Cocktail
1 oz. Old Tom Gin
1 oz. Dry Vermouth
3 Dashes of Benedictine
3 Dashes of Orange Bitters
Orange Twist for garnish
Method: Pour ingredients into a shaker half full with ice. Stir well with a bar spoon. Strain into a cocktail glass. Take an orange peal and squeeze and twist over the glass before dropping it into the beverage.
