Back in the 1800s if there was something wrong with you out of the norm at birth, chances are you would probably be left to die or orphaned. An average and good life was definately out of the question. “Freaks” was usually the term used when describing these people. With the people I will be talking about today, them being born this way probably gave them a better life than what would have had if they would have been born normal.

Millie and Christine McCoy were conjoined twins and were born to slave parents. Having seven kids already, the parents decided to sell this newborn to a showman by the name of Joseph Pearson Smith. Just after this event, the twins were kidnapped by another showman and shipped to the United Kingdom. Lucky for them, Mr. Smith wasn’t one to allow this to happen and got them right back. Smith and his wife would teach Millie and Christine five languages, teach them how to dance, sing and play music. They would become a very popular act for the Barnum Circus for the last 35 years of the 19th century as the stagename, “The Two-Headed Nightengale”.

To honor these “Freaks” on their birthday, I have found a coffee drink that bears the name of those less than perfect souls of these times. I have to warn you, this drink is not for the weak at heart! In fact, I toned down the amount of alcohol on this drink just to make it paletable. This will still get you to where you want to be in a hurry.

The Freaky E Coffee Drink
1 oz. Vodka
1/2 oz. Amaretto DiSaranno
1/4 oz. Grain Alcohol
Coffee

Method: Pour the vodka, amaretto, and grain alcohol into an Irish Coffee mug. Top off with coffee. Stir extremely well!
