We’ve had a very hot and sticky summer so far here in the Midwest, with record breaking temperatures and unusually dry weather reeking havoc across the middle part of the United States. However, there was a day in Death Valley, California on this day, back in 1913 that was so hot that it actually melted thermostats. The temperature hit 134F in this region, still the hottest day on record in the Continental United States.

I found a drink that they could have helped keep themselves somewhat quenched on this day. Plus, the name of the drink goes along with what most of us have been through the last month. Enjoy it while hanging out at the pool, or quite possibly inside in the Air Conditioning.

The Heat Wave Cocktail
1 1/2 oz. Coconut Rum
3/4 oz. Peach Schnapps
Apple Juice
Orange Juice
Splash of Grenadine

Method: In a parfait glass filled half-way with ice, pour in the coconut rum and peach schnapps. Top off to about a 1/2″ from the top with equal parts of apple juice and orange juice. Finish it off by slowly pouring the Grenadine on top of the cocktail. Garnish with an orange wheel and cherry.
