The Hoosier Cocktail is December 11th Drink of the Day!!

December 11, 2012 | By | Add a Comment

On this date, back in 1816, Indiana became the 19th State of the United States of America. Known for being a very rural state, it does have the 18th largest city in the country in Indianapolis. It also has many great colleges and universities - Notre Dame, Purdue, Indiana University just to name a few of many. It is right in the heart of the Mid-West and is the smallest state, area wise, west of the Appalachian Mountains.

I have found a drink that is named after the nickname of the state. Hoosier, it’s believed, was what the country bumpkins of the state were called and the name stuck.

This drink is a martini with the flavor of rum added to it. There isn’t much to this cocktail, and it will be easy for you to make for yourself at home. Enjoy this as a sipping cocktail and remember it’s considered a two drink cocktail in the eyes of the law. So, don’t drink too many too quickly.

Hoosier Cocktail

2 oz. Vodka

1 oz. Light Rum

Dry Vermouth

Method: In the chilled martini glass you will be using for the cocktail, pour about an ounce of dry vermouth in the glass and set it off to the side. Now, take a shaker tin filled with ice, and add the vodka and rum to it. Shake well until you feel the cold on the outside of the tin. Before pouring the contents out of the shaker, swirl out the dry vermouth, which will leave a residue on the inside of the glass. Now, strain the contents of the shaker into the lined cocktail glass.

This Day in History:
