The logo is known worldwide. The roar of the lion to start off any production from this studio is one of the most known sounds in the world today. You hear it and know that you’ll be watching an MGM Studio’s movie. On this day, in 1928, the start of the roar began when it opened MGM’s first talking movie, “White Shadows in the South Seas”. In fact, other than the one line of the movie, where the actor says “Hello”, the roar is that only other spoken part of the movie. The name of the lion who brought us this roar was named, Jackie. He was the second lion ever used by MGM. Today’s “Leo” has been the roar and logo of MGM since 1957.

To commemorate this day in history, I’m going to introduce a drink I have yet to try myself, but seemed somewhat intriguing due to the primary ingredient being Dry Vermouth. I will have to give one of these a try. If you happen to try it, drop me a line and let me know your thoughts on it.

Leo the Lion Cocktail
2 oz. Dry Vermouth
1/2 oz. Brandy
Splash of Creme de Menthe

Method: Pour all ingredients into a shaker glass filled half-way with ice. Stir well with a bar spoon, then strain into a cocktail glass.
